A Special Thank You to you from the Oikos Sisters:

“To our dear friends,

Greetings of peace and joy!! Each of the Sisters in our Community would like to express our most sincere gratitude for all of the love shared at the Poor Household of God FUNdraiser this past August 2nd at St. Petronille Parish! How we wish we could have all been there to share in the joy and in the stories, but we were with you in spirit and in prayer! Thank you to all who came to the event, who participated online, who donated gifts for the silent auction and all who volunteered their time to prepare for and work at the event!!

As Sr. Sarah said, all of you are like a beam of moonlight on the sea whose light ripples on and on, going far beyond what the eye can see. Your love, your light and blessings reach beyond what you can see to make our work to eradicate poverty in our little corner of the world possible here in Eastern Samar in the Philippines. Thank you for responding so generously…at this event and even throughout the years. May God bless you abundantly for your love for the poorest of the poor! You remain in the prayers of all of us each day. Please continue to pray for us, especially for more vocations.

With sincere thankfulness and prayers, The Oikos Family

But they all send their most sincere thanks and warm wishes and prayers for all of the donors, benefactors and prayer warriors of the Poor Household of God! Thank you for all YOU do that allows the Oikos Sisters to do what they do!!

Giving Tuesday 2023!!!

It’s hard to believe that Giving Tuesday is here again!! Many, many thanks to all who have donated to the Poor Household of God in the past as we work to support the mission of the Oikos Sisters in the Philippines!!

You may remember that in 2018 we raised money for Giving Tuesday for a Community Center in Oikos Village where the Oikos Sisters live and work. Because of the pandemic and other more crucial needs, this project was put on hold…until now!!

The foundation of the Community Center and frame are almost completed!! The construction crew is working hard to complete this center in record time!!! Unfortunately because of inflation and changes to the structure of the center, more funds are needed to complete it. This will not only be a gymnasium to gather for large missions and to have a place for the children to play, but it will be the HEART OF THE OIKOS MISSION!!!

The Oikos Community Center will house: *** a Medical Clinic for visiting doctors to care for the poor and the Charity Pharmacy of the Oikos Sisters which provides FREE MEDICATION for the poor!! *** a Dental Clinic for Oikos’ own Sr. Michelle who is a dentist and provides FREE DENTAL CARE for the poor as well as a center for ORAL HYGIENE EDUCATION which is wildly omitted by most dental missions for the poor. *** a Library…the FIRST PUBLIC LIBRARY IN EASTERN SAMAR!!! *** a Music Room and an Art Room to help build up the talents and abilities of the beneficiaries of the Oikos Sisters, giving the poor CONFIDENCE and ENJOYMENT!

Please help us in this great endeavor to complete this project that was started during Giving Tuesday 2018!!! Be assured of the Oikos Sister’s continued prayers for all of you, your families and all of your intentions. THANK YOU for your generosity and care for the poorest of the poor in Eastern Samar, Philippines!!!

A Barrio Visit to Barangay Canyupay

On Saturday, November 4th, the Oikos Mission went up in the mountains of Borongan City to a barrio called Canyupay to give lots of love, joy and much needed relief goods!!

We went to spend the day with the people of Canyupay, a barrio of about 80 households with lots of children!! With action songs, praising God, delicious food to eat (spaghetti and fried chicken), a lesson on proper toothbrushing and fluoride treatments for the children, it was a full day of fun and joy!! Each household recieved 5 kilos of rice and everyone received clothing too!

During our FUNdraiser in last August at St. Daniel the Prophet Parish in Wheaton, IL, hundreds of school supplies were generously given by all the attendees of the fun event. We were so happy that the school supplies arrived in Borongan in time to give many of them out to the students of Canyupay!! How happy the children were to receive crayons, scissors, rulers and paper!! We also gave them some stuffed toys and clothing for the babies.

The children are pictured with Mary Jane Trinkus, director of the Poor Household of God, who was with us along with her husband, Dr. Vic Trinkus. Thank you, Auntie Mary Jane and Uncle Vic!!!

We praise God for His Providential love and care for all His beloved poor people, and for choosing us to be the conduits of that great love!! Thank you to all the benefactors of the Poor Household of God for your generosity, thoughtfulness and love!! It is appreciated more than you will ever know!!

To God be the Glory!!!
